From Instagram Dreams to World Tour Reality

The very first NXT:GEN event by NIGHT of the JUMPs hit like a bombshell. Several thousand fans celebrated in Dornbirn, Austria, as BMX and MTB rookies from new nations battled side by side with NIGHT of the JUMPs pros for a golden ticket to compete at the main series in Budapest, Hamburg, and Düsseldorf. But let’s start at the beginning.

The Road to Dornbirn

Over the past five weeks, nearly 100 BMX, MTB, and scooter rookies applied via Instagram for a spot at the NXT:GEN premiere. Due to the pilot format, only 32 riders could be invited – and the competition to be among them was fierce. After a careful selection process, the most promising talents were called up to Austria’s border triangle.

The first highlight awaited them already at check-in: the exclusive Welcome Package featuring a limited Riders Shirt, premium Spect Eyewear, and goodies from partners Panoramahaus, VoÜs, and Red Bull. The rookies were wide-eyed – and it only fueled the anticipation. During training, it quickly became clear that the selection was spot on: after just a few cautious runs on the massive 8m drop-in, the rookies were already throwing down incredible tricks. Even the pros were impressed and realized they couldn’t rely on their status in the upcoming Pro/Am showdown.

Friday also saw a spectacular press conference high above Dornbirn. Spanish NIGHT of the JUMPs leader Alejandro Bonafé joined two trampoline athletes from the Freestyle Trampoline Association (FTA) for a breathtaking demo on the rooftop terrace of the Panoramahaus – 40 meters above the city. The flips and tricks were streamed live to thousands of fans on Instagram.

The day ended in true action sports style at the Highmatrausch Trampoline Arena, where rookies and pros connected over pizza, sessions on the parkour, pumptrack, and giant trampolines. Barriers dropped, respect was earned, and friendships were forged.

The Battle for Budapest

Saturday was crunch time. After another morning of training – including for late-arriving rookies – riders faced the first round of qualification. Out of four groups with seven riders each, the top three advanced directly to the semifinals. The rest had one last chance in the repechage round to grab the final two semifinal spots.

The 14 semifinalists all pushed to their absolute limits. The pressure was visible on every jump – everyone wanted that ticket to the Pro Tour.

And then came the Finals: rookies versus pros, three starting spots up for grabs. What followed was nothing short of epic. The pros had to go all-in to avoid being dethroned by the hungry next generation. In the end, Alejandro Bonafé lived up to his reputation, taking the Pro/Am victory. Right behind him, however, rookie Lorenz Schwängler stormed to second place, securing his start at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Budapest. Third overall went to pro Tom Pfeifer, while in the rookie ranking, Schwängler also came out on top with 336 points, followed by Pascal Kobel (300 points) and Luis Peters (296 points), who claimed the last coveted spot on the NIGHT of the JUMPs stage.

A Format Here to Stay

The premiere was a resounding success – for riders, fans, organizers, and partners alike. The roaring applause in Dornbirn spoke louder than words: NXT:GEN by NIGHT of the JUMPs is here to stay. Just like its legendary predecessor, NIGHT of the JUMPs, the NXT:GEN format will now begin its own journey across Europe and beyond – giving the next generation of action sports athletes their chance to shine.
